TM-5-4310-389-14 2-15 OPERATION IN EXTREME HEAT. CAUTION Do not operate the compressor if the ambient temperature exceeds 25F (52C). a. Keep all engine, compressor, and heat exchanger cooling fins clean and free of obstructions. b. Ensure that cooling air flow is not restricted and that cooling air comes from the coldest available source.  Avoid having heated air drawn into the cooling fan. c. If possible, provide shade to protect the unit from direct sunlight. 2-16 OPERATION IN DUSTY OR SANDY AREAS. a. Protect the unit from dust and sand.  Take advantage of all natural barriers that could protect the unit from blowing dust or sand.  Install a tarpaulin when the unit is not in operation. b. Keep fuel clean.  Strain the fuel before adding to the tank.  Ensure the fuel storage and transfer cans are clean. C. Check and service the engine/compressor air cleaners often. d. Clean the engine, compressor, and heat exchanger cooling fins often.  Wipe with clean cloth. 2-17 OPERATION IN RAINY OR HIGH HUMIDITY CONDITIONS. a. Store unit in a sheltered area when not in use. b. Keep fuel clean and free of water.  To minimize condensation, keep the fuel tank full when the unit is not in use. c. Whenever possible, protect the unit from direct rainfall when operating.  Cover the unit with a tarpaulin suspended about three feet above the unit. d. Drain the oil/moisture separators often.  Press and hold the condensate drain switch for 10 to 15 seconds every 10 minutes of continuous operation. e. Do not allow water to enter compressor air intake hose. 2-22
