E N G I N E DIFFICULT TO START.
Step 1.
F u e l tank empty or fuel cock closed.
F i l l fuel tank and/or open fuel cock.
Step 2.
I n c o r r e c t choke setting, especially if engine is cold.
A d j u s t choke.
C a r b u r e t o r flooded by too much choking, especially if engine is hot.
Step 3.
A d j u s t choke.
Step 4.
L o s s of compression due to dry cylinder.
R e s t o r e compression. R e m o v e spark plug. Pour approximately one ounce of
e n g i n e oil into cylinder and crank engine a few times to distribute oil. Replace
s p a r k plug.
Step 5.
Loose or broken spark plug.
T i g h t e n or replace spark plug.
D a m a g e d cylinder head gasket or loose cylinder head.
Step 6.
R e p l a c e damaged gasket, and/or tighten cylinder head.
B r o k e n ignition wire causing short circuits.
Step 7.
R e p l a c e broken ignition wires.
D e f e c t i v e ignition coil.
Step 8.
R e p l a c e defective ignition coil.
