Check to see if fuel feed pump is defective (diaphragm). Repair, as required (para. 4-32). Step 2. Check to see if commencement of delivery setting is incorrect. Adjust timing (para. 5-30). Step 3. Check to see if compression pressure is too low. Replace piston rings, cylinders, or valves (para. 5-41, 5-42, and 5-43). Step 4. Check to see if cylinders and/or piston rings are worn. Replace cylinders or piston rings (para. 5-42 and 5-43). 12. ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION EXCESSIVE. Step 1. Check valve guides. Repair or replace (para. 5-40). Step 2. Check cylinder and piston clearance.
