CHAPTER 4UNIT MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONSSection I.REPAIR PARTS, SPECIAL TOOLS, TEST, MEASUREMENT, AND DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT (TMDE), AND SUPPORT EQUIPMENT4-1. COMMON TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT. For authorized common tools and equipment, refer to the Modified Table ofOrganization and Equipment (MTOE) applicable to your unit.4-2. SPECIAL TOOLS, TMDE, AND SUPPORT EQUIPMENT. No special tools are required for maintenance of theequipment. Test, Measurement, and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE) and Support Equipment include standard equipmentfound in any maintenance shop.4-3. REPAIR PARTS. Repair parts are listed and illustrated in the Repair Parts and Special Tools List (RPSTL), TM 9-4310-394-23P, covering unit and direct support maintenance for this equipment.Section II. UNIT SERVICE UPON RECEIPT OF EQUIPMENT4-4. SITE AND SHELTER REQUIREMENTS. Before beginning set up of the air compressor unit, be sure that you haveselected the proper site and shelter for the unit as described in the following paragraphs.WARNINGCARBON MONOXIDE (EXHAUST GAS) CAN KILL YOUCarbon monoxide is without color or smell, but can kill you. Breathing air with carbonmonoxide produces symptoms of headache, dizziness, loss of muscular control, a sleepyfeeling, and coma. Heavy exposure can cause brain damage or death. Carbonmonoxide gas occurs in the exhaust fumes of internal combustion engines, and canbecome dangerously concentrated under conditions of no air movement. To ensure yoursafety and that of other maintenance personnel, always observe the followingprecautions:DO NOT operate engine in a closed place unless the place has a lot of moving air.Engine should be kept at least five feet away from buildings and other equipmentduring operation.DO NOT idle engine for long periods without proper ventilation.BE ALERT at all times for exhaust odors and exposure symptoms. If either ispresent, IMMEDIATELY VENTILATE personnel compartments; remove affectedcrew to fresh air; keep warm; if necessary, give artificial respiration. FORARTIFICIAL RESPIRATION REFER TO FM 21-11.BE AWARE; the field protective mask for chemical-biological-radiological (CBR)protection will not protect you against carbon monoxide poisoning.4-1
