CAUTION
Never operate starter motor for more than 5 seconds at a time. Allow motor to cool for at least 2
minutes between operations. Overheating can cause sever damage to motor.

Perform no-load test as follows:
a)
Connect starter motor as in figure 4-58 in series with fully charged 12-voltbattery, ammeter (200 amp
capacity), and variable resistance.
b)
Connect voltmeter from motor battery terminal to motor frame.
c)
Install rpm indicator on motor shaft to measure armature speed.
d)
Install jumper between motor battery terminal and starter solenoid terminals.
e)
Obtain specified voltage by varying resistance.
f)
Read current draw and armature speed and compare with the following specifications.
