This section contains troubleshooting information for locating and correcting most of theoperating troubles which may develop in the air compressor unit. Each malfunction for an individual component, unit, orsystem is followed by a list of tests or inspections which will help you to determine corrective actions to take. You shouldperform the tests/inspections and corrective actions in the order listed.In general, engine exhaust is an excellent way to tell what kind of condition your air compressor unit is in. Exhaust colorof black, or bluish-white, smoke is normal before the engine warms up fully. As the engine reaches normal operatingtemperature, the exhaust becomes clear or light blue, provided there are no problems. If the exhaust does not clear up,a problem is indicated.When exhaust color is abnormal, turn off the engine immediately and notify your supervisor. Use Table 4-2 as aguideline to exhaust symptoms.Table 4-2.
