Table 2-2 lists the common fault conditions that may be found during operation or maintenance of the
equipment. Look for causes and do corrective actions in the order listed. This manual cannot list every
symptom that may show up, and it cannot list all the possible causes and corrective actions. If a symptom is
not listed, or if it keeps up after you have performed the corrective actions, notify your supervisor.

STEP 1. Check for inaccurate air pressure gauge (TM55-1905-223-24-18).
Replace gauge (TM 55-1905-223-24-18).
STEP 2. Check for defective pressure switch.

Compressor knocks.
STEP 1. Check for loose compressor valve assemblies.
Secure if needed.
STEP 2. Check for a loose pulley (sheave).
Secure if needed.
STEP 3. Check for inadequate crankcase lubrication.
Add oil if needed.

Compressor loads and unloads excessively (RPMs fluctuate).
STEP 1. Incorrect speed due to belt slipping.
STEP 2. Check for excessive system air leakage from fittings, piping, or air tank.
Locate air leaks and correct as required.
STEP 3. Check for defective unloaders.
