Inspect for corroded
terminals.

Clean with emery cloth if
corrosion is present.

End bells (3 and 4)
Clean loose dirt from vent holes.
WARNING
Eye protective equipment
must be worn when scrap-
ing rust and loose paint.
3.
Stator and frame
a.
Remove corrosion and loose
assembly (5)
paint with wire brush from
frame exterior.
b.
Prime and repaint affected
areas.
c.
Inspect leads and stator wind-
ing for evidence of burning.
d.
Replace stator and frame as-
sembly if burned windings
are found.
e.
Remove loose dirt from in-
terior of stator with bristle
brush or vacuum cleaner.
4. Grommets (14)
Replace if missing.
Grommets prevent wire insulation from
being cut by sharp edges.
5. Stationary and rotary
a.
Inspect for burned or pitted
switch (13 and 12)
contacts.
b.
If pitting is minor, remove
with small file.
c.
If pitting can't be removed,
replace switches.
6. Rotor and shaft (7)
a.
Inspect shaft for wear on
assembly
bearing contact surfaces.
b.
Replace if wear is evident.
c.
Inspect keyway for nicks or
deformation.
d.
Remove small nicks with file.
e.
Replace if keyway is dam-
aged so the pulley won't seat
securely.
