If storage battery too low to start engine, engine is equipped with recoil starter.NOTEThe switch key ON position only gives a light to indicate power on condition.b. Turn switch key to ON position.c. Push knob (1, Figure 2-9) located inside frame control panel (2) to allow fuel flow.d. Open and vent drain valve to 0 air pressure and close.e. Pull knob and starter rope handle of recoil starter with adequate force to turn engine.WARNINGStorage batteries give off flammable fumes that can explode. Improper jumpercable connections can cause an explosion. Prevent sparks near storage batteries.Sparks could cause vapors to explode. Do not allow jumper cable ends to contacteach other or engine. Do not smoke when observing storage battery electrolytelevels. Always wear protective glasses working with storage batteries. Electrolyteis an acid and can cause personal injury if it contacts skin or eyes. Failure toobserve this warning may result in severe personal injury or death.CAUTIONWhen using an external electrical source to start engine, turn switch key off andremove switch key. Turn off electrical accessories before attaching jumper cables.When using jumper cables always connect POSITIVE (+) cable to POSITIVE (+)terminal of storage battery and NEGATIVE (-) cable to a convenient location ontrailer base. Do not reverse storage battery leads. Always attach ground storagebattery lead last and remove ground storage battery lead first. The alternator canbe damaged.2-41
